6 Reckless
Words
We've all said something
we've regretted. It might not have even
been out of your mouth before you knew it was
bad. Maybe it was a slip of the tongue or
maybe you really meant it when you said it.
Once those words were out however, there was no
taking them back.
Whoever said that sticks
and stones may break my bones but words will
never hurt me is a liar. Words hurt
plenty. Sometimes we're too sensitive to
them and need to develop thicker skin but there
are other times that we are deeply hurt but what
someone says.
James 3 discusses the
tongue and perhaps not surprisingly, wisdom as
well. James tells us how powerful the
tongue is - just like a small spark that can
start a great fire.
Of course the tongue can
be used for good as well. We use our
tongue to praise God. We can use it to
encourage others. We can also use it to
say we're sorry for the wounds that we caused
with it.
The tongue is a double
edged sword and we must be extremely careful how
we use it. We must use it for good and be
careful with it at all times. |
