5 Love of
Discipline
You can probably recall
your parents saying it to you or maybe you've
even said it yourself "This is for your own
good." Nobody truly enjoys discipline.
A police officer has never been thanked for
pulling somebody over for speeding because the
offender learned a lesson and won't do it again.
Nevertheless discipline is
good. When a child touches a hot stove
they don't need to be disciplined to learn their
lesson. But if they walk out onto the
street or are too near the road discipline is
needed before they hurt themselves.
Hebrews 12:5-6 says "My
son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline,
and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,
because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and
he punishes everyone he accepts as a son."
We don't have to enjoy it
when we fall under God's discipline but we
should rejoice because it means He loves us and
is concerned about it. God cares about us
and wants only the best for us. He doesn't
want us to hurt ourselves physically, mentally,
emotionally, or most of all spiritually.
Sometimes God says no and we should be happy
about that. |
