3 Laziness
and Poverty
Certainly not everyone who
is poor became that way as a result of laziness.
However laziness will result in poverty.
We are supposed to care
for the poor. This is universal in both
the Old and New Testaments. However we
must be wise in how we even help others as some
are poor as a result of laziness.
When poverty is the result
of laziness Paul gives instructions that are
harsh but meant to motivate the lazy. In 2
Thessalonians 3:8 he writes, "For even when we
were with you, we gave you this rule: 'If a man
will not work, he shall not eat.'"
We really have no clue why
people are poor unless we know someone
personally. Therefore it is wise to err on
the side of grace. When we are personally
involved though we should strive for the concept
of giving someone a hand up rather than a hand
out.
When we are working hard
we may ask God to bless our work and expect Him
to respond. Perhaps we won't become rich
but God will notice our work and remember it. |
