Matthew 13:24-26,28-30
"The kingdom of heaven is
like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But
while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and
sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. When
the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the
weeds also appeared."
"The servants asked him,
'Do you want us to go and pull them up?'
" 'No,' he answered, 'because while you are
pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat
with them. Let both grow together until the
harvest. At that time I will tell the
harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them
in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat
and bring it into my barn.' "

October 8 Weeds and
the Harvest
In
this parable of Jesus all of humanity falls into
one of two categories. We are either wheat
or weeds. Weeds are unplanted and
unwanted. They steal valuable nutrients
away from wanted and producing plants.
We know that God expects
us to produce fruit as Christians. What is
the purpose of the weeds? We often ask why
God allows certain things to happen or why
certain people continue to get away with sin.
Sometimes it is because God is patiently waiting
for people to repent and turn to Him.
In the case of the weeds
however, weeds are not going to turn into wheat.
God is not going to gain anything by allowing
the weeds to remain among the wheat.
However it is for the sake of the wheat that the
weeds are not removed.
If God removed every
sinner who was not going to repent every
Christian would be affected. Calamity
would fall upon our friends, our neighbors, and
our family.
There will be a time of
judgment for sinners but it will take place at a
time when Christians will not be affected.
God will not uproot Christians in order to bring
judgment upon those who deserve it. |
