Firstfruits
The
Feast of Harvest or the Feast of Firstfruits as
it was also known is kind of self explanatory.
It was a feast that commemorated the harvesting
of the first crops of the year.
The firstfruits were
dedicated to God as an offering. So often
Christians give God what is leftover. We
fit church events in our calendar if nothing
else interferes with it. We give to church
based on what we left at the end of the week or
month.
God wants our first and
best however. The dedication of
firstfruits is an act of faith but it is not
blind faith. The firstfruit is an
indication of what we can expect of God.
He has already given us a downpayment and asks
for it back as an indication that we trust Him
to take care of us by providing the rest of the
harvest.
We know that God has
promised to provide for our needs. Perhaps
we worry sometimes but we should still remember
the promise. When we trust God to take
care of us, it becomes much easier to give back
from the abundance that He has already given us. |
