Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit
is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and
self-control. Against such things there is no
law.

October 23 Fruit of
the Spirit - Self Control
Self-control is the last of the fruit of the
spirit but it certainly is not the least.
It is found in almost every aspect of our lives.
Self-control is what gives us the discipline to
practice living the fruit of the Spirit.
We need self-control whether we're Christians
or not. It is what keeps us from
overeating, keeps us maintaining healthy
practices, and prevents us from saying and doing
things that would get us into trouble.
But there is a spiritual side to self-control
as well. It is through self control that
we are able to resist the temptation to sin.
If we followed the will of our flesh, we would
fall victim to every manner of sin.
Self-control is what allows us to say no even
though it is something that we may want but
isn't good for us, physically or spiritually.
Only with the help of the Holy Spirit are we
able to resist the temptations that we face day
after day.
Self-control is just like a muscle; the more
we use it, the stronger it will get. The
longer we practice self-control, the easier it
will get to maintain it. This doesn't mean
it will be easy all of the time, just easier.
Self-control is something that we will struggle
with all our lives but the Holy Spirit will help
us in our struggle. |
