According to Its Kind

When God created the earth He made people, plants, and animals so that they would reproduce according to their own kind.  Apple trees produced fruit and seeds that created new apple trees.  Sheep gave birth to sheep.  And people had babies that took after their parents.

This is the natural order of things and isn't exactly anything surprising.  So what can we learn from this?  The natural world is a reflection of the spiritual world.  Just as a dog wouldn't give birth to a pig and an apple tree wouldn't grow peaches, so Christians should be expected to grow Christian fruit.

This month we'll see a lot of what the Bible has to say about fruit and harvesting.  This gives us a clue as to what God expects of us as Christians.  Christians are going to bear the fruit of Christians.

This doesn't mean that we are perfect and that we don't totally miss the mark at times.  But as a general rule we should be able to identify Christians by observing their lives.  A lot of people can talk the talk but a genuine Christian will also walk the walk.

It's not a hard and fast rule, but we should be able to tell who genuine Christians are by looking for the fruit in their lives.  Christians bear fruit according to their own kind.
