Fruit of the Spirit - Joy

It has often been said that happiness depends on our situation but joy is unconditional.  This is important to remember when we face trials and difficulties in life.

There will certainly be times that we are unhappy about something that happens in our life.  Things will happen from time to time that frustrate us.  Some of these things are out of our control while others are results of mistakes that we have made.

When we are unhappy, we are usually spurred on to correct mistakes or change our situation so that we will find ourselves in a more favorable position.  Our joy can and should remain constant in even the most difficult of circumstances however.

Our joy is derived from our salvation in Jesus Christ.  No matter what difficulties we face, our salvation is not in danger.  God holds us securely in His arms.

Having joy doesn't mean that we are eternal optimists but Christians should rest secure, knowing that God is in control.  It means that when difficulties come, we know that God will see us through them.

When we understand that God is looking out for us even in the midst of difficulties, then we can relax and let the joy of God flow from our lives.
