Romans 7:5
For when we were controlled
by the sinful nature, the sinful passions
aroused by the law were at work in our bodies,
so that we bore fruit for death.

Fruit for
Death
The book
of Romans is the roadmap for God's plan of
salvation. It details the work of Christ
and what a person must do to accept God's gift
of salvation.
While the Christian life
is all about bearing good fruit, the life we had
before also bore fruit. The problem is
that the sinful life bears the fruit of death.
As sinners we are
controlled by our sinful nature. The law
points out what is right and wrong and our
sinful desires wants to do what is wrong.
These "sinful passions" as they are called in
our verse bring us nothing but trouble.
Fortunately we do not need
to be ruled by our sinful nature and we don't
have to bear the fruit of death. The
Christian life is guided by the Holy Spirit.
The next several devotions look at the fruit
that the Holy Spirit bears. |
