1 Corinthians 3:6
I planted the seed, Apollos
watered it, but God made it grow.

October 12 Planting
and Watering
Each of us has our own story of how we came to
Christ. It may have been through the work
of a pastor or Sunday school teacher; or it
might have been a friend or family member who
invited us to church.
Odds are that many people
were influential not just on our decision to
come to Christ but also for our spiritual
growth. When Paul left the Corinthian
church he was closely followed by Apollos.
Apollos built on the work of Paul.
Our natural inclination is
to get jealous of someone who receives the glory
for building on the hard work that we already
did. Paul had no such concern about his
work however. He was just a simple laborer
and whatever growth happened was for God's
glory, it didn't matter who received the credit
for it.
When we are working to
help others mature in Christ, we shouldn't be
concerned who receives the credit or who
ultimately benefits from the fruits of the
labor. We labor for God and the fruit that
is bore is ultimately for His benefit. |
