Matthew 14:19
And he directed the people to sit down on the
grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish
and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and
broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the
disciples, and the disciples gave them to the
people.

15 Thanks for a Miracle
One of the most amazing things about Jesus'
feeding of the 5,000 is not that He performed an
incredible miracle. This is really no
different than turning water into wine, it's
just on a much larger scale that Jesus turns
fish and bread into more fish and bread.
It is humbling to think that even Jesus gave
thanks for the food. Even though Jesus is
God, He could do nothing on earth without the
power of God the Father. This means not
only did the ability to perform a miracle come
from God the Father, so did the food itself.
Jesus was just as dependant on God the Father
for the food that He ate as we are today.
When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, they
are instructed to pray for their daily bread.
In days before refrigeration and Tupperware,
food didn't last long. Even greater was
the fact that most people made enough in a day
to feed their family for that day. If they
didn't work, their family didn't eat.
Because of this they had to rely on God each and
every day because they didn't know when their
next meal would come if they weren't able to
work.
Even though Jesus has all of the power of God
the Father behind Him, He is still dependant on
God to supply His daily needs. Jesus
performed great miracles through the Father but
He was just as dependant on God the Father for
His daily needs as we are. |
