Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

Faith is Resistance

Earlier we looked at the shield of faith and how a Christian should use it.  The shield provides resistance against the fiery arrows of the devil.

Satan will attack us, we can be sure of that.  As a matter of fact, the stronger we stand in our faith, the stronger the attacks will become because Satan wishes to destroy us.

We are called to stand firm in our faith however.  We can't resist the attacks of the devil on our own.  All of our wisdom and confidence and strength will not do anything to protect us from the schemes of the devil.  Only by God's strength will we stand firm.

Faith means trusting that God is in control even when things feel out of control and when we would prefer to be in control.  When we believe that things are under our control, we have no need for faith as we will try to manage on our own.  When things are out of hand, that is when we need our faith.

Not only should we rest secure, knowing that God is in control, we can be assured that we do not suffer alone.  Whatever trials we may face in life, there are others who suffer alongside of us.  We can draw encouragement in seeing how God is helping others through their battles and they can draw strength from watching us as well.
