Romans 4:9
Is this blessedness only for the circumcised, or
also for the uncircumcised? We have been saying
that Abraham's faith was credited to him as
righteousness.

Faith Credited as Righteousness
Abraham sets the pattern for not only the Old
Testament but the New Testament as well.
Righteousness is not something that is earned
but rather it is something that is given by God
because of faith.
In the Old Testament there was the law that was
supposed to be upheld. But because no one
was able to follow the law, there were
sacrifices that were required for the
forgiveness of sin. There was nothing
magical about these sacrifices that did anything
to sin. Instead, it was an act of faith,
trust that God would accept them for the
forgiveness of sin. Ultimately they looked
forward and pointed to Jesus' sacrifice on the
cross.
In the church era, things operate the same way.
Instead of looking forward, we look back and
respond with faith. Although none of us
met Jesus nor witnessed His death and
resurrection, we act in faith and believe in
Him. Because of this faith our sins are
forgiven. |
