Hebrews 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please
God, because anyone who comes to him must
believe that he exists and that he rewards those
who earnestly seek him.

Faith Pleases God
We've already seen that it takes faith to
believe in the existence of God because He is
unseen. We can see what God has done but
we can't see Him. Simply believing that
God exists is not the kind of faith that the
writer of Hebrews is talking about however.
James 2:19 says, "You believe that there is one
God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and
shudder." Belief in God is not enough, the
last part of the verse is very important.
We must act on our faith in the existence of
God.
Millions upon millions of people believe in God
and then shrug their shoulders and move on with
their lives. These people either don't
believe in heaven and hell or assume that they
are basically a good person so they deserve to
go to heaven.
God is more than just the Creator. An
acknowledgement that God exists is nowhere near
the same as believing that He is holy, just,
loving, righteous, etc. Those who truly
believe in God believe in the whole person of
God with all of His attributes.
If we really have faith in God - not just some
generic cosmic creator - then we know that we
must earnestly seek Him. This is crucial
to our understanding of God and our faith.
