Hebrews 11:3
By faith we understand that the universe was
formed at God's command, so that what is seen
was not made out of what was visible.

Faith is Unseen
There is a lot that is taken by faith that we
consider scientific today. These things
are taken for granted and aren't up for
discussion for most people. Their argument
is, "Everybody knows..." For instance:
everybody knows the the earth revolves around
the sun. However, 1000 years ago,
everybody knew the sun revolved around the
earth.
This isn't an argument that modern science is
wrong and that we shouldn't trust it.
Instead, it is an acknowledgement that we place
our faith in people any time we can't observe
something ourselves. From our perspective,
the sun revolves around the earth, moving from
east to west. Unless we do all of the
measurements and calculations, we must have
faith that those who did, did so correctly.
We must have faith that God created the
universe. We didn't observe it but we
obviously know that it came to be somehow.
We rely on the authors of the Bible to tell us
the story of what happened just as we rely on
scientists to tell us how things operate today.
Faith can collide with the faith of another.
Christians believe that God created the universe
while many scientists believe that it was formed
through a Big Bang with the mixing of the right
chemicals at the right time. Since we
can't observe the formation of the universe, we
must take it on faith and choose what we
believe. |
