1 Corinthians 14:26

What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church.

Orderly Worship

There is order to our world.  Everything from the movement of galaxies in space to the circling of electrons around protons in every chemical has an order.  It should come as no surprise then that God calls for order in worship as well.

Imagine the chaos if when it came time to sing everybody decided to sing their favorite song instead of the one that was chosen to sing together.  This wouldn't happen but the point is that we shouldn't decide how we are going to worship.

There are different worship styles that are better suited for different cultures and personalities.  This is fine and we should accept that people worship in different ways.  What we do need to be aware of though is that we do not remove parts of worship that we don't enjoy.  Just because we don't enjoy the sermon doesn't mean that it should be done away with!

There is a growing trend, particularly by younger people, to move away from the church.  These people still believe in God but are tired of the politics and garbage that comes with a church structure.  But we are told not to give up meeting together.  It is important for our Christian walk to have fellowship with other Christians.

We can't pick and choose what parts of worship we want to accept any more than we can sing different songs at the same time.  All parts of worship are valuable to us and they should be done in an orderly manner according to God's Word.
