2 Samuel
6:16
As the ark of the LORD was
entering the City of David, Michal daughter of
Saul watched from a window. And when she saw
King David leaping and dancing before the LORD,
she despised him in her heart.

Ashamed of Worship
The
previous devotion saw how David danced
before the Lord. David's wife, Michal, is
disgusted by his display. She responds to
David in verse 20, "How the king of Israel has
distinguished himself today, disrobing in the
sight of the slave girls of his servants as any
vulgar fellow would!"
David did not expose
himself and at worst was dancing in his
underwear, but Michal believed that a king
should be above any such display. To dance
around in a linen ephod meant to take off the
robes of a king and lower oneself.
Worship is all about
humility however. When we worship the
Lord, we acknowledge that He is above us.
Michal was ashamed of the way that David had
acted however. We may be uncomfortable
with certain expressions of worship as well.
The important thing to remember is that we are
incapable of judging the heart.
While there are times that
worship comes in the form of entertainment or is
more of a frenzy than anything orderly, we must
be careful of how we judge. God desires
worship from the heart and we shouldn't be
ashamed of it if that is its origin. If it
is not true worship God is not fooled - we just
need to make sure that our worship is heartfelt
and uninhibited by shame. |
