New Birth
In John 3 Nicodemus has a long conversation with
Jesus about salvation. Jesus tells him
that he must be born again. This confuses
him as he knows it is not physically possible to
be born a second time.
To be born again is to be born first physically
and then spiritually. This new birth
brings about a new life spiritually. Not
only does it bring about a spiritual change, it
grants a physical change as well.
At salvation we do not physically change.
Instead we are given hope of resurrection.
Our bodies will grow old. They will have
aches and pains and be subject to sickness and
disease. If the Lord does not return in
our lifetime, we will die.
Death is not the end of life for the Christian
however. Because of our new birth, we
await the resurrection. In the twinkling
of an eye the dead shall be raised to life.
We will be transformed and given a new and
glorified body like Jesus had after He rose from
the dead.
To be born again means that we are a new
spiritual person while here on earth. But
it also means a new imperishable body in heaven.
This should give us great hope for our future. |
