Hebrews 10:19-20
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to
enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus,
by a new and living way opened for us through
the curtain, that is, his body...

A New Way
Once a year on the day of atonement the high
priest was allowed to enter into the Most Holy
Place in the temple. There he would make a
yearly sacrifice on behalf of the nation of
Israel.
One of the many interesting things that happened
at the time of Christ's death was that the
curtain that separated the Most Holy Place was
ripped apart, both literally and spiritually.
We no longer have to approach God through a
priest. Jesus made a new way for us to
communicate with God. That new way is
directly through Him.
The book of Hebrews talks at length about how
Jesus is now our high priest. Because of
His sacrifice we can approach God.
In the Old Testament the high priest entered the
Most Holy Place with fear. Even though it
was a sacred duty that he performed, he also
knew that one misstep could bring death.
It was so serious that he had a rope tied around
his ankle so that he may be pulled out in the
event that he died.
Because of the new way that Jesus made, we do
not have to approach God with fear and
trembling. Our sins have been paid for in
full. We can come to God in confidence
because of Jesus. |
