New Heart and Spirit

There are many great prophecies in the Old Testament.  Many point to the coming of Jesus and precisely what He will do in His first and second comings.

Ezekiel describes the transformation that takes place because of Christ however.  Because of the forgiveness of sin that is made available due to Jesus' death on the cross, we are given a new heart and spirit.

We are born sinful and hard hearted.  Scripture tells us that no one seeks God.  It takes an act of God to soften our hearts to even become receptive to the calling of the Holy Spirit.

Once we answer that call however, God places the Holy Spirit within us.  He replaces our heart of stone with one that seeks the will of God.

There is debate whether miraculous gifts are still at work within the church today.  What is not up for debate is whether God still does miracles however.  The greatest miracle that we can witness today is the gift of a new heart of flesh.

When we see someone with a heart of stone turn to Jesus Christ and watch their life transform immediately, there is no denying that God is at work.  Only God can take a heart of stone and turn it into a heart that beats only for Him.
