New Heavens and Earth

We think of new heavens and a new earth as a New Testament idea but it has been in God's plan all along, going back to the Old Testament.  The world that we live in now is full of sin and is under God's curse so a new one will be created for us.

Jesus told His disciples that He would go and prepare a place for them and later return to take them with Him.  We are still awaiting Jesus return but we are promised that it will be better than what we have now.

We don't know what heaven will be like.  The images that we have in the Bible are of streets of gold and a place where there will be no more death or sadness.

We will not long for things of earth.  We won't miss out on anything.  Everything that we need will be provided.  And things that we may think we need but don't will be forgotten.  We won't even think about them not being around.

Perhaps greatest of all is that all of the hurt and pain of this world will be forgotten about.  The guilt of our sins will be gone.  The sins that were committed against us will be washed from our memory.

When God creates a new heaven and earth, all will be made new.  We will have a new start even mentally as the old, painful things are removed from us forever.
