Ecclesiastes 1:9-10
9 What has been will be again, what has been
done will be done again; there is nothing
new under the sun.
10 Is there anything
of which one can say, "Look! This is
something new"? It was here already, long
ago; it was here before our time.

Nothing New
As Solomon reflects back upon his life, he
realizes that all of his wealth and fame have
brought him little of lasting value. In
the end he concludes that the only thing of
value is obedience to God.
Man is not as creative as we would like to
think. The new things that we invent are
nothing but new forms of something that already
existed. The internet is simply a new form
of communication. The microwave is a new
wave of cooking. But we didn't create
communication nor cooking.
It is said that those who fail to learn from
history are doomed to repeat it. This is
because most things are cyclical and what
happened before will likely happen again.
The people involved and the exact circumstances
will be different but it will be basically the
same thing that has happened before.
In every romance movie we know that the guy and
girl will end up together after overcoming some
obstacles, comical or serious. In every
action movie we know that the good guy will
defeat the bad guy.
We can still delight in new things that are very
similar to something we've already seen.
Why else would movie sequels be so popular?
But only God is capable of doing something
completely new. Only He can change a life
and turn it around. When God does
something, it never grows old and we should
never become tired of it. |
