A New Song
While churches continue to debate over how to
properly worship and whether traditional or
contemporary music is most appropriate, it is no
surprise that there is advice on the topic in
the Bible.
As God enjoys giving us new blessings, He wants
new praises in return. This does not
answer the question of what style of music is
most appropriate. It doesn't even instruct
us that we are to write new songs.
Instead each time we sing, we should reflect
anew upon the blessings of God. Both old
and new worship songs can become hum drum and
repetitive as they are repeated without much
thought on what is actually said.
Because God is constantly showering us with new
blessings, we should be constantly praising Him
for these new blessings. They can be with
words written by contemporary song writers.
They may be by hymn writers of a hundred years
ago. Or they may be taken from the writers
of scripture over 2,000 years ago.
Every time we sing a song with a new attitude of
thankfulness for what God has done, we sing a
new song. |
