Mark 11:8-9
Many people spread their cloaks on the road,
while others spread branches they had cut in the
fields. Those who went ahead and those who
followed shouted,
"Hosanna!"
"Blessed is he who comes in the name of the
Lord!"

The Triumphal Entry
The events of the triumphal entry were predicted
to happen. Instead of riding into town on
a white horse as a conquering hero, Jesus rode
in peacefully on a donkey. When Jesus
returns He will come as a conquering hero on a
white horse, but not this time.
What is most amazing about this passage are the
people. As the crowds assemble to
recognize Jesus, they acknowledge that He is
special even if they might not truly understand
who He is.
Just a few days later another crowd would form
however. Instead of shouts of "Hosanna!"
Jesus is greeted by shouts of "Crucify Him!
Crucify Him!"
Probably the same people were not in both crowds
but it still begs the question of where were the
people who had shouted "Hosanna!" When
Jesus was arrested, His followers scattered,
even His disciples. The people who praised
Him wouldn't stand up for Him when there was
adversity.
It is easy to praise Jesus when everyone else is
and things are going well. When there is
trouble however, will we stand and continue to
praise or will we flee for fear of others as the
crowds of the triumphal entry did. |
