Transfiguration of Christ
The transfiguration of Jesus is often overlooked
in the gospels as a bit of theological trivia or
something interesting but not very important.
The transfiguration of Christ is a glimpse of
the glory of Christ however.
Jesus left the glory of heaven and took on human
flesh. This is what Christmas is all about
and the theological side of this is discussed in
"Christ's Humility."
It is difficult for us to comprehend that Jesus
was God in flesh. We believe that He is
the Messiah that the Israelites had waited for.
We believe that He died for our sins. We
can even partially grasp the concept that Jesus
was the son of God. But we have great
difficulty understanding that Jesus is God along
with God the Father and the Holy Spirit.
As Jesus is transfigured, the disciples who are
with Him get a brief glimpse of His glory.
When Moses communed with God he had to put a
veil over his face when he returned because the
glory of God reflected off of his face and the
people were terrified of it. For just a
brief moment Jesus pulls back the veil of His
humanity and His disciples can see who He really
is. |
