Luke 2:49,52 "Why were you
searching for me?" he asked. "Didn't you know I
had to be in my Father's house?" ... And Jesus
grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with
God and men.

Jesus the Boy
We know very little about Jesus as a boy except
for this short story in Luke. While His
parents were in Jerusalem for a feast He
wandered off to the temple and was forgotten
there. (People would have traveled in
large groups for the festivals and it would have
been easy to assume a child was with another
family.)
When Mary and Joseph discover that Jesus is
missing and return to Jerusalem, they find Him
at the temple, speaking with the teachers.
Jesus not only listened to the teachers but He
answered questions and amazed everyone who heard
Him speak.
During His ministry Jesus stated that a person
must have the faith of a little child to enter
the kingdom of God. It is easy to dismiss
what children can know and understand about the
Bible but this is the best time to teach them.
As we become older, we become more set in our
ways and arrogantly believe that we know
everything. Children are naturally curious
however and want to know the answers of life.
There is no better time to teach them the Bible
than when they are young as this sets the
foundation for their entire life.
Jesus grew in wisdom and stature because He
sought answers from the one source that provided
the spiritual answers to life. It is not
enough to be wise in the world's eyes, we must
be wise in God's eyes as well. |
