Luke 2:29-32
"Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now
dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have
seen your salvation, which you have prepared in
the sight of all people, a light for revelation
to the Gentiles and for glory to your people
Israel."

Jesus at the Temple
As Jesus is taken to the temple on the eight day
after His birth, He is seen by Anna and Simeon,
two people who had been waiting for Him their
entire lives. They both rejoice at the
sight of Jesus as they recognize that He is the
Messiah who they have been waiting for.
We see similar rejoicing today when a person
places their faith in Jesus. The thing
that they had been missing in life is finally
discovered. The guilt of their sins is
lifted away. The joy of salvation
overflows from a new Christian.
After we've been Christians for a while, we
often lose some of the excitement that we first
had when we were saved. Perhaps we feel
the same about our salvation, but the newness of
it is worn off.
Anna and Simeon are examples and reminders of
the joy of our salvation. They had waited
their entire life for the Savior and they were
overjoyed when they finally saw the baby Jesus.
If at no other time of the year, at Christmas we
should reflect upon the joy that is in our lives
because Jesus came into the world as a little
baby. |
