The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising
God for all the things they had heard and seen,
which were just as they had been told.

Shepherds
The angels announced the birth of Jesus to
shepherds in the field nearby on that night in
Bethlehem. Of all the people that God
could have chosen to tell of Jesus' birth, He
chose shepherds.
In the Old Testament, we have several examples
of good shepherds, King David being probably the
best example. Jesus Himself used shepherds
as an example of faithfulness and claimed that
He was the Good Shepherd who laid down His life
for the sheep.
At the time of Jesus' birth however, shepherds
were not held in high regard. They were
not considered trustworthy and their word was
not even considered legal testimony in court.
These were not the most likely people to first
tell the story of the Savior's birth but God did
it anyway.
The shepherds went about telling everyone what
they had seen and heard, regardless of whether
anyone accepted their testimony or not.
They were excited about the birth of the Savior.
They set an example for us.
It doesn't matter if no one accepts our message
about Jesus. We are called to tell others
about the good news, no matter how it is
received. The shepherds were faithful with
the news that they were given and we should be
too. |
