1 Corinthians 14:26 & 33
What then
shall we say, brothers? When you come together,
everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a
revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All
of these must be done for the strengthening of
the church.
For God is
not a God of disorder but of peace. As in all
the congregations of the saints...

Order in gifts
Paul has already written
about how each gift makes up a part of the body
and each gift is needed in the church. But
here we discover that there needs to be order in
how we practice our gifts as well.
There is a time to use
your gift and a time to sit back and let someone
else use theirs. Back in elementary school
we were taught that we couldn't all be talking
at the same time. So too we can't all be
serving or teaching or counseling at the same
time.
If you are a worship
person, you need to be mindful that there needs
to be time - and budget as the case may be - for
missions, discipleship, etc.
One gift is not greater
than another and so we must all learn to wait
our turn and let others use their gifts at the
appropriate time. It sounds grade school-ish
but it was a lesson that the Corinthian church
needed to be taught. Perhaps we can all
use a reminder that it's not always about us
even in regard to the gifts God has given us.
He's given other people gifts as well. |
