1 Corinthians 12:17-20

If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?  But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.  If they were all one part, where would the body be?  As it is, there are many parts, but one body.

The importance of diversity

We worship a God who is big on diversity.  He made people of all shapes, sizes, colors, and personalities.  And He also gave us different gifts.

"He has two left feet" is an expression used to describe someone who can't dance.  But what if a person really did have more left feet and less right feet than they needed?  It would be difficult and awkward to say the least.

God made us balanced perfectly.  And He made the church that way too.  The human body has 206 bones.  Each one is different but the body would suffer without even one of them.  So too the church needs all 30, 100, 500, or 10,000 members.

Small churches often complain about a lack of resources.  I know because I've been in them all my life.  But the truth is we're not lacking in resources our function just isn't the same as larger churches.  God has given the church exactly what they need to accomplish their mission, they just need to realize what it is.

On the flip side, many people flock to larger churches so they can sort of hide.  But God hasn't called us to hide.  If you're a member of a large church that means there are more things going on and there is an even greater need for workers.
