Exodus 3:10-12
So now, go. I am sending
you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites
out of Egypt." But Moses said to God, "Who am I,
that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the
Israelites out of Egypt?" And God said, "I will
be with you. And this will be the sign to you
that it is I who have sent you: When you have
brought the people out of Egypt, you will
worship God on this mountain."

Gift of Leadership
Moses was rather thrust into
leadership and wasn't given much of a choice.
God had been working with him all along to bring
him this point in his life when he would lead
Israel out of Egypt. Moses had the benefit
of the best education in all of Egypt.
Then he undoubtedly learned humility as he spent
forty years as a shepherd. Now at the
young age of 80, God was telling Moses to use
his gift.
Most leaders are not called
in such dramatic fashion. In fact, many
leaders aren't called at all. They see a
void within the church and they rise up to fill
the void.
It has been said that a
leader must have followers otherwise they're not
leading, they're just taking a walk. There
are a number of people in positions of
leadership who aren't leaders however.
This certainly doesn't make them bad people,
their gifts are just in other areas.
We need to avoid the mistake
of assuming just because someone has been around
the church a long time that they are a leader.
A strong church needs a strong leader to cast
vision for what God wants the church to be in
the future. Moses had a vision of leading
the Israelites out of Egypt and into the
Promised Land.
If you're a leader, determine
your vision and get to it. If you're not a
leader, find out what the vision of leadership
is and use your gifts to support it. |
