Gift of Serving
I had a kid in my youth group
once who suffered from ADD and Tourette
Syndrome. Needless to say it was hard to
keep him focused during a lesson. I
discovered early on that he had the gift of
serving. If I needed chairs moved he was
the first to volunteer. If there was
something relatively menial to do, he did it
with a smile. He would even volunteer to
wash my car because he enjoyed serving and it
was his gift.
It is easy to look down upon
the gift of service as it doesn't earn the
respect that a teacher or leader does. But
for every leader or teacher there's five, ten,
or maybe even a hundred people needed to work
behind the scenes on the little things.
People with the gift of
serving do the things that everyone else just
kind of assumes automatically gets done.
It's easy to take it for granted but the church
wouldn't go far without servants. And best
of all, people with the gift of service do it
with a smile because it isn't menial nor do they
consider the work beneath them. They are
happy to serve the Lord any way in which they
can.
The gift of serving differs
from helps in that helps involves skilled labor
and serving is unskilled. |
